Just use the included printable leprechaun template to cut out the leprechaun’s hat and body, and then glue everything. We’ll show you the step by step to making the little man in green, and then you can add him to banners, wreaths, cards, or even popsicle sticks to make your own sneakly leprechaun puppet.

How to make this Printable Leprechaun Template Craft

Supplies Needed

You probably have all of the materials you need right in your kids’ craft box, which is one of the reasons we love how simple this is to make! 

You will need:

  • Colored construction paper or craft paper
  • Pencil
  • Black Marker or Sharpie
  • Googly eyes
  • Gluestick or craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Leprechaun printable template (click here to print)

How to Make the DIY Leprechaun Puppet 

Step 1: Print, Trace, and Cut Templates

Print and cut out template pieces from the free leprechaun template download.

Trace around the template shapes onto colored paper for each color (feel free to mix it up to make yours unique). Then, cut out each body/accessory part.

Step 2: Glue body and basic face together

Glue face onto beard shapes, and glue body sections together (attached to back of body shape).

Layer belt together (black, yellow, black)

Step 3: Using glue, attach the oval nose, googly eyes, and eyebrows.

Tip: If you want to make the nose pop in a 3D manner like pictured below, glue a piece of craft foam down first (image on the left) and then glue on the oval nose on top. It makes him look even more adorable!

Draw a smile using the marker.

Step 4: Attach the head to the body. Now it looks like a real leprechaun!

Add the belt embellishment to the hat shape, then glue the hat to the front of the head.

And that’s all! This is such an easy craft project—it would be great for kids to do as well.

There are so many fun things you could do with this leprechaun template. It would be a fun paper bag craft as well if you put the body on the bottom and the face and hat on the top flap!

We can also see this as decorations for a St. Patrick’s Day Party, or moved around the classroom for kids to find just like elf on the shelf! Or just add to your St. Patty’s Day Pinterest board along with your other St. Patrick’s Day crafts for kids!
